"Forrest Chopmaster 10 inch 80 tooth saw blad" 2009-12-15
By R. Stevens
I read other reviews of this item with some skepticism. I mean, could it really be as good as some people claimed? Yes it is. It is by far and away the best blade I've ever used in my miter saw. I've used it so far to cut cherry for a cabinet I'm building and I still can't believe how smooth the cuts are. Although I have not tried to finish a cut edge, from the look and feel of the cut there is no need to sand the cut edges. This blade is worth every penny that I paid for it.

I am a custom home builder and we do extensive wood trim in our homes. I bought this blade on the reviews and Forrest reputation, and have not been sorry. The blade performs flawlessly and will out-cut any of my Freud, De-Walt and other trim blades. Buy it - you won't be sorry.

 "Fantastic for Plastic" 2009-11-21
By Woodsmithy (Green Bay, WI USA)
This blade cuts Lexan and Plexiglass without the usual melting and cracking. Wish that I would have bought it years ago. I didn't buy it sooner because I didn't think that it could cut that much better, but it does. Save yourself a lot of frustration when cutting plactic, buy this blade.

I PURCHASED THIS BLADE TO CUT 1/4" PLEXIGLASS, IT DOES THAT WITH A SMALL RESIDUE REMAINING AFTER THE CUTS. THESE FALL OFF WITH VERY LITTLE FINGER PRESSURE. MY PLEXIGLASS HAD NO PAPER BACKING. THIS BLADE ALSO CUTS WOOD AND PLASTIC...IT'S THE BEST CUTTING BLADE IN MY WORKSHOP. GET ONE AND SEE WHAT I MEAN. JOHN ARNOLD

 "Does the job" 2007-09-26
By kilograham
I used this to cut 1/2" Lexan for some windows- overall it did a great job, I did notice it took some bites but I don't know if this was the blade or my saw (powermatic 66). Cut finish was decent, and it didn't splinter or crack at all. With the cost of lexan I thought it prudent to get an appropriate blade, this one worked well.

"Cuts plexiglass like it is butter" 2006-02-17
By C. Regan (KC,MO)
This blade rocks and was well worth the price. I use abs plastic and plexiglass quite frequently and I can honestly say that this blade is far superior vs. even my thin kerf 80 or 60 tooth freud blades. I used 1 inch thick lexan for its first test, no chipping it left very small fine shavings instead of little plexi chips. It is a very quiet blade as well. Overall I am very impressed with this product.

 "Great Blade" 2009-11-30
By Bruce (Utah)
This blade is great in my Makita sliding miter saw. Like so many others have reviewed, cuts are true and smooth. Rarely need sanding if I cut the length correctly. This is a AAA class blade, and I like being able to sharpen several times. Good value for the money if you want/need a top grade blade. I also use a few Tenryu Gold Medal blades in my other saws, and both Freud and Tenryu work great. I need my tools to be better than I am, and these blades do that.

By David Dalzell (Sierra Nevada Mtns, CA)
I mostly make small boxes and jewelery boxes. With the 80 tooth Freud blade the miter and other joinery cuts I make are glue up ready and have no tearout. This is the best blade I have for fine joinery.

"good for the right job" 2009-01-01
By S. Shaw (Indy, IN)
I gave it 4 stars because it is an O.K. blade. I bought it for cutting 3/4" oak plywood (table saw). I was happy with the results, but not impressed. It worked well with other types of wood. Would I buy again? Only if I had to, due to choices available at that time. Price should be $69.99 for what you get.

 "Its Good" 2008-05-22
By Hard Maple (Emmett, ID USA)
Super smooth cuts. But you can't really chop cut with the blade. You have to take a few extra miliseconds than you would with a 60 tooth, but you make that up in sanding and/or gluing time since the cut is now at about a 150-grit finish anyway. It seems to run quieter than the blade I replaced (can't recall the brand or model since its been on so long). And it fits snuggly on my 5/8" arbor, no play. All-in-all I find it an excellent blade for my second most important saw (my table saw has a Woodworker II).

"use full kerf for cross cutting finish work" 2007-11-06
By Benjamin W. Stenzel (minneapolis)
I am thrilled with this saw blade. I have a 12 in for my mitre saw and a 10 in for my table saw. I only use them for cross cutting finish work. When the work is feed in to the blade slow the blade causes less tear out on the back side of the board than any other blade i have used. I have not been happy with other Freud blades. I ended up using them for rough cutting. But these are worth the money.

 "works as advertised" 2008-02-28
By A. Smith (Camas, WA)
I've used this blade on a big kitchen's worth of pre-finished maple ply (~31 cabinet boxes)plus backs, plus drawer bottoms - plus a handful of melamine projects before. Both rip and crosscuts are clean with almost no tear out on the bottom. I've used panel saws with a scoring blade and this does about 95% as good a cut. Unless you're ready to spring for an Altendorf, this is the way to go.

It's also worth pointing out the less obvious moral to the story here: while there are some good general purpose blades (I also have a couple of Forrest Woodworker II blades - I like 'em) any time you use a general purpose blade you're making a compromise. When I built my workbench I bought a specific ripping blade - a Freud Glue Line - to rip a heck of a lot of 2" maple. The overall performance - speed of cut, lack of saw marks - was just better than the Woodworker II. While there are times when a general purpose blade is the way to go, if you're doing a bunch of similar cuts, you'll be much happier if you spring for a little more cash and blade changing time and use a purpose desinged blade.

"Do pass up this Blade" 2007-12-19
By James G. Jones
I am making my own kitchen cabinets with Red Oak and ¾ inch prefinished birch plywood. After many frustrating attempts to rip and cross cut the prefinished plywood with other manufactures blades without any lifting and splintering, I decided to try a Forrest Duraline HI-AT 10" 80 tooth blade. I have a Jet 10-inch 3hp cabinet saw and rechecked all table to blade dimensions, splitter and fence settings to the new blade, no adjustment were needed.

Wow, what a blade. Sharp, smooth, quiet no drag, no vibration (my zero clearance doesn't walk at all) and NO lifting or splinters of the prefinished layer of the birch plywood. What a difference this blade has made in the results and woodworking pleasure. All 90 and less than 90 degree cross & rip cuts are smooth without sign of burn or vibration.

Forrest also engraves a serial number in the blade with a lifetime satisfaction warranty. Full instructions on care and sharpening. I have NEVER experienced this kind of detail from any blade manufacture. I will stick with Amana and Freud for Router bits and cutters but I will be purchasing Forrest blades from now on.

Jim,

Rochester, N.Y.

The Freud Difference
Freud manufactures some of the most innovative, technologically advanced saw blades in the world. To ensure that the highest quality products meet the toughest design standards, Freud owns and operates six manufacturing facilities in Western Europe. Freud is one of the few manufacturers of woodworking tools in the world that produces its own MicroGrain carbide with titanium, called TiCo -- a combination of titanium and cobalt. Freud develops different types of carbide for each application to maximize the cutting life and performance of the tool; and Freud also operates one of the most modern product development research centers in Europe. By overseeing the entire manufacturing process from start to finish, Freud guarantees some of the highest quality, most advanced products in the industry.

About Freud's Avanti Blades
Freud’s Thin Kerf (TK) Series of blades provide precise, quality cuts for most every application. The advanced thin kerf design removes less material -- thereby reducing the strain on your equipment and increasing the life of your saw. The slim design requires less cutting power from both you and the saw, making it ideal for underpowered saws. A Silver I.C.E. coating on all Freud TK blades helps reduce friction, heat build-up and gumming, thus extending the life of the blade by as much as 50 percent.

About this Non-Ferrous Metal Cutting Saw Blade
The Freud 10-inch 80-tooth non-ferrous metal and plastic cutting saw blade is an ideal blade for on-the-job cutting of nonferrous metals such as copper pipe, aluminum extrusions, and brass plate. For easy use and added precision, the blade features an anti-kickback design and Tri-Metal Brazing for impact resistance. The blade has expansion slots that are strategically placed to allow for blade-body expansion from centrifugal force and thermal expansion during actual use. The slots are used to prevent air turbulence and eliminate vibration as well.

Applications
Use this blade to cut through non-ferrous metals such as copper, aluminum, brass, bronze, and lead up to 1/4-inch thick. Also, this blade is ideal for cutting plastic materials such as PVC, vinyl, acrylic, and polycarbonates.

Key Tech Specs:

  • 1/4-inch max wall thickness
  • Freud-Made TiCo Hi-Density Carbide construction
  • Not recommended for ferrous metals or masonry

Warranty
This blade is covered by Freud's limited lifetime warranty.

"Great blade for cutting aluminum" 2008-11-24
By Patrick Gans (Dallas, TX)

I am using this blade to cut aluminum angle that is 1/8 thick. It cuts nice and clean and I found it to be a great value. All the non ferrous blades at the saw shop were over $90, so I was happy to find one that would do the job for less since I don't use it daily.

Very impressive so far. I've been cutting a lot of cabinet grade plywood and these leave no fuzzy edges or tearout. Far superior to a combo blade (even the Forest WWII) for plywood. If you cut plywood you need one of these. I haven't tried other plywood specific blades but I find this one to be great.

I bought this blade because I am making some cabinets out of sheet goods and was worried about chip outs while cutting the veneer. This blade came through in flying colors! Not one chip out. Very smooth cut and the blade is balanced very well. I should get many years out of this blade with occasional sharpening so the price was well worth it.
