 "Excellent value" 2009-04-20
By Luke K
My love for Hitachi grows a bit fonder with each of their products I purchase. This is a brand that is not over charging for their products. For $29, it beats any blade sold at my local Home Depot or Lowes. As another reviewer posted, my blade also did not come with the laser cut sound dampening channels. I find it odd since the packaging also shows them, but they are not on the blade. Either way, it's a great value for the price.

By K. Senthivel (Murphy, TX)
I have read the previous review about the sound damping channel and took a chance. Even mine doesn't have them. I am a newbie to wood working and am not sure how much channels are useful. I am yet to use this blade. If its very noisy, then I might return it.

"WARNING: may not be the same as the item pictured" 2008-10-18
By B. Belcher (Indianapolis, IN)
I have yet to use the blade, so my current rating of 4 is assuming that it functions sufficiently. I would just like to let others know that the blade pictured is not the exact blade that I received. The item numbers match up and everything. But my blade does not have the laser cut sound dampening channels, which is very odd because the packaging for my blade says that it does have them. Assuming the blade works well, it's not worth the time and effort for me to return it. I would just like to point out to other potential buyers that they may not receive the exact blade that is pictured.

"Great Blade at a Great Price" 2009-10-05
By D. Niederhauser (Lehi, UT)
I originally was going to go with the Diablo blade but found this one and decided to give it a try. While I've only had the Hitachi blade for a couple of months so only time will tell if it holds up as long as a Diablo blade will, for now I've put this Hitachi blade through a lot of use while building a completely new bathroom and this Hitachi blade has been great. It makes very quick, smooth, fine finished cuts and has a blade that it a bit thinner which makes it easier to be right on target with your measured cuts. From my experience with this blade I will tell you that you will not notice any difference between this blade and a Diablo blade that retails at twice the price. I think it's a great value for the price.

...it doesn't hold a candle to the Freud D0860S Diablo 8-1/2-Inch 60 Tooth Fine Finishing Miter Saw Blade with 5/8-Inch Arbor. The Freud, with the laser-cut expansion and resonance-dampening slots, runs quieter and cuts smoother than this blade. It's worth the difference in price...especially since a saw blade is NOT the place to save money on a project!

"Must have for Hardi-Plank siding" 2006-12-16
By R. C. Stevens (Lebanon NJ USA)
Title says it all. Great blades. These things slice through fiber cement siding like a hot knife through butter. VERY low dust too. Long life on blade--I did a three car garage and attached 170 sq ft mudroom on one blade with no real noticeable dulling of blade. If you were siding a whole house or larger addition, you'd probably need two blades though.

 "Cuts cleanly" 2006-09-07
By PK (Midwest)
Not much needs to be said. This one delivers what you want in a saw blade; no noticeable vibration, cuts cleanly (top and bottom faces!), and lasts a long time considering you are essentially cutting cement and paper. Used on a 12" Bosch SCMS.

One other thing, if you are considering following the manufacturer's advice and using a power shears to cut fiber cement instead of a saw blade to minimize dust, save your money, buy a dust mask, and get this blade. The shears won't ever get you consistent edges and smooth cuts like this (I regretably wasted my money on the PC one). Also, use a sharp utility knife blade to do the 'score and snap' method for those cuts the SCMS cannot do -- and get the Malco nippers too!

 "great blade best price" 2009-09-07
By Patrick Schmear (East Texas)
I looked at all the big stores. Home depot, lowes and ace hardware. Not one of these stores carry Hardie blades. Which really surprises me considering how popular hardie is these days. Some carry them in the 7 1/4 but none carry a 10 inch blade.

I work with and for my dad's building business.I bought the blade along with some gauges and my dad could not believe the difference. He had purchased a blade from a building material supplier for $40 and it was a blade for cutting concrete. It worked but it cut through a lot slower and created a ton of dust. It was a diference of night and day. Before I left Milwaukee to move down to Texas I checked a well known store that carried a lot of things most dont. They told me they carried the Hitachi blades in a 10" but they cost $100. So far since this blade we have done 2 houses. Still cutting great and dad still raves about it. Now I need to order some jig saw blades since I cant seem to find them at any hardware stores as well. These hardware stores are missing out on sales. I just dont get it.

 "Cuts like butter!" 2009-08-25
By M. Hawkins (Eugene, OR)
This blade does a great job by cutting hardiplank siding. I am just finishing up a house remodel and used this blade to install all of my siding. This blade cuts smooth and is still cutting well. I bought 2 blades, one for my 10" miter saw and a 7 1/4" for my circular saw. Both did a great job with no complaints. The dust wasnt that bad from these blades, nothing like a standard carbide blade. I recommend wearing a respirator when cutting this siding. This stuff isnt good to breath! Definitely a must have if you are installing hardiplank siding!

"Lived Up To My Expectation" 2009-07-12
By David Staehle (Tulsa, OK USA)
I must say I was really impressed with the first cut. I was surprised how quite and smooth the cuts were and, as specified by the product description, produced little dust. I probably made a total of 60 cuts on my 10" sliding miter power saw. After about 40 cuts, the noise and dust increased somewhat and the cut lines were not as smooth as the first cut, however, I think this blade could handle another major project. I recommend this product. I would have rated this a 5-star but didn't because I think it's overpriced. I think it should be priced in the $40-$50 range.

"All that's promised, I would say so far" 2009-02-20
By Tim in Mint Hill (Charlotte, NC USA)
This blade, made specifically for cutting fiber cement boards/planks, has lived up to my expectations so far. I'm a homeowner, doing my own re-siding of my home with Hardiboard planks, and I'm only about 2/3 the way done. I've had to make a lot of cuts because of multiple sides, windows etc, and have gone thru several 'certified' Hardie approved (4 tooth) blades, i.e Freud, Irwin, but they DID NOT have PCD (polycrystalline diamond) inserts. Those blades, while holding up better than a standard carbide blade would, started showing signs of wear after about 30-40 cuts, shooting sparks and such.

I read about these blades by Hitachi (DeWalt, Makita and others also have them with PCD) and the review/price seemed to make the Hitachi the best value. Good value, doesn't mean cheap!

I bought the 7-1/4" and 10" variants of the this Hitachi blade, and have made hundreds of cuts so far, with no signs of degraded cutting ability.

I use the 7-1/4 only for my circular saw for ripping. As promised, and printed on the label of this 10" blade, you can gang together up to 5 planks to cut at one time...and it works flawlessly. I use a Bosch compound miter saw and it literally makes the cut so cleanly, even after hundreds of cuts, that I simply wipe the edge with my hand before nailing the planks up. No more using a knife to cut away the jagged edges left by poor quality blades.

If you're like me, you hate dealing with the dust of cutting fiber cement boards. If using a compound or chop saw, you will cut thru so fast, with so little dust, for some cuts and having a light breeze to take the dust from you, you'll be tempted to now put the mask on every time. Not recommended, but a testament to how much less dust these do generate.

I'm very happy with this product.

 "why so expensive?" 2008-08-26
By dusty jack (Maine)
This thing works ok. It is hard to believe it reduces the amount of dust created, as dust is blowing out of the back of the saw as if that were purpose of the operation. It does cut fiber cement siding crisply and repeatedly. My 7" blade cost $6 and this costs $60, they both work equally well. Go figure!

"Good blade for the money" 2009-03-07
By EvilTwin (Portsmouth, VA USA)
Bought this blade on the price and amazon recommendations. Not disappointed so far. Nice finish, looks pretty well made. French manufacture. I ran a few test cuts in a porter cable miter saw on some birch plywood and I did get some chipout on the bottom. Looking at the cut itself, you can see a few swirls from the blade so I wouldn't say its a glass smooth finish by any means. It is a much better blade then the original so I am happy with it. I may chuck it up in the tablesaw since it also takes a 12" blade and see how well it works on a few crosscuts.

 "Great saw blade" 2009-03-02
By Mark D. Schnittman (Rocky Point, NY USA)
This is the 2nd blade of this type that I am buying. This blade cuts amazingly clean, and slices through any material like a hot knife through butter. There is no comparison between this blade and the stock one that came with my miter saw. I am buying a 2nd due to an accident that ruined the 1st blade, which would have undoubtedly lasted a long time. This blade cuts as well as others costing over twice as much. Highly recommended.

 "Works just fine." 2009-05-20

I bought this blade because I like the 4x8 sheets of cement board siding. I sometimes use cement board under tile, but I don't do all that much tile work, but the siding is great -- pretty much impervious to water, bugs, etc. The only problem is working with it. I find that this blade cuts it with no problems, and an air nailer shoots nails into it just fine. Wear a mask when you cut it. There is some dust.
