These are great for cutting softer woods and plywood. Don't use them on hard woods like maple because the teeth will deteriorate quickly. If you need to cut hardwoods use the 1" wide blades, they are much better. Fein makes good products but they must think that we are all rich like they must be. Their prices are way too high. Soon there will be others that will interchange and the prices will come down. In the meantime we will keep making them rich.

I agree with others, these precision blades dull quickly and are very fragile. I broke off the last 10 teeth or so on each end after about 5 minutes trimming pine molding. Pretty ridiculous, especially considering the quite high price tag. Get the standard blades, they last longer.

The item advertised was purchased and paid for by me. After a series of communications, I was misled and the order was mysteriously canceled, the item removed from the website, and my money was refunded against my wishes and contrary to what I was told would happen. I purchased an item as advertised and it was removed from the shelf with no good explanation and in violation of all purchaser/seller agreements. I am very disappointed and will only shop at Amazon when all other options are exhausted.

The DELTA 35-7670 8-inch Stacked Dado Set includes two 8-inch dado blades made to DELTA's exacting standards. DELTA uses a laser cutting technique to ensure that each blade is accurately cut without any warping. You'll have exceptionally smooth cuts, and fewer splintering and tear-outs, thanks to the extremely sharp cutting edges with C4 micro-grain carbide teeth that are ground so that each tooth planes the wood. The expansion slots are precisely cut to minimize noise and edge vibration. Also included are 4-tooth carbide tipped chippers to deliver flat bottom cuts, as well as stainless steel shims for making ultra-fine width adjustments. Included with the set is a storage case that protects the blades against damage.

"Delta 35-7670 stacked dado set" 2009-12-23
By Shawn D. Peterson (Webster, MN)
This is an excellent dado set. It has flexible setup with the various choppers and shims. It makes beautiful cuts that are flat bottomed and crisp, very clean side wall cuts. I do fine cabinetry with this blade, it does not disappoint. I used a Sears adjustable wobble blade before this, and it made atrocious cuts by comparison. I could never set the width quite right, and it chewed the wood away like a rat rather than the nice surgical cuts the Delta blade makes. Clearly, this is the difference between a $30 blade and a $150 set like this. I didn't want to spend $280 on some of the high end dado sets out there, so I bought this one as a middle ground expecting some minor flaws I'd just need to live with. I have been pleasantly surprised, not only are there no flaws in the way this dado cuts, but it is easy to use, set up, and the thickness table in the instructions is very handy and serves as a great reference. This blade gets 5 stars from me, I'm not sure what spending another $100 would get me. As a side not, the case is pretty good. Mine has the flimsy wing nuts that broke too, but it still works, and the blades are great.

By Woodworker (Stratford, CT)
I've been shopping for a stacked dado set for some time now, but couldn't seem to find something with a good rating at a decent price point....until now. I had not seen Delta blades advertised much, but I took a chance based on other reviews. I have not been disappointed. Although I've only used it a few times, so far the cuts have been clean, with almost no tearout. The set is boxed really nicely in a sturdy plastic case with secure hold-downs for all the blades and spacers. I haven't used it on plywood yet, but cuts across the grain in solid hardwood have been excellent.

This is my first dado set so I can't compare to others but I am very happy with this product. I was unable to find a more complete set in the price range as this one. I like the case that it comes in, makes it a lot easier for storage when not in use. Everything is packaged inside in its own spot. With the shims to the 4 tooth wing cutters to the 24 tooth blades, this set compares to ones over $200. Very Happy with purchase.

Have not been sorry for my choice. It has given me very clean cuts. The metal shims are sooo much better than the plastic shims. The package is very good - except for the plastic nuts used to secure the blades. One was broken when received. If it had metal wing nuts would give it "5 star" rating.

I own a Fein tool and really like the tool. I am always using it for everyday home remodeling. This thing is one of the most useful tools I own. Although I must say that at $15.00 per blade, it can get quite expensive to operate, but it is worth it. I recently found that Sears makes a blade that will fit the Fein at HALF the price and are of the same quality, they dull quickly to, but no worse than that of Fein. I recently stocked up on the Sears blades, no more Fein blades for me. Maybe Fein will get the message and lower their prices. Thanks Fein for the great idea, but you are too pricy!

"Best dado set on the market" 2009-08-10
By Andy (New Jersey, USA)
This is my third Forrest product (my first was the WWII, then the Chopmaster, now the Dado King). Forrest is top of the price range in all categories of blades, but also the best quality in my opinion. The Dado King cuts bottoms that are smooth as glass, and tear out is literally non-existent. But as other reviewers here have mentioned, the dados/grooves aren't true 90 degrees. There are little Batman ears at the corners of the dado. But that is intentional, and the instructions that come with the dado set explain that. Basically, those little raised corners are what help make ultra clean sides and bottom to the groove and minimize tear-out at the end of the cut. I had a Freud SD208 Super Dado (see my review on Amazon for that)set for $90 or so, and it got the job done, but the bottoms were far from flat and there was a good amount of tear out. It was worth spending the $250 or so to upgrade to the best (Dado King)

Customer Buzz
 ""Smooth Across the Grain"" 2006-03-22
By Robert L. Carter (Lakewood, CA)
With out a doubt the most difficult dado to cut is a cross cut of laminated material.

Most moderately price stacked dado sets cut smooth accurate dados with the grain and if you get an upper priced set you can get a smooth bottom as well. But if you turn the material 90 degrees every blade and chipper had better be `balanced' or you're going to get `chipping'.

The Forrest Dado King is a cut above the norm. It's a well `Balanced' tool that makes a clean smooth dado in either direction. With the grain it almost like using a wide blade and it's smooth across the grain as well.

"Forrest 8" Dado Set vs Freud 8" Super Dado Set" 2003-03-10
By Bob Feeser (Springfield, PA USA)
Forrest makes a clean sweep in the awards ceremonies. Their Woodworker II took top honors in Fine Woodworking Magazines run off of blades. Close behind was the Freud at a quarter of the cost. Excellent for both blades on smoothness of cut, but the Forrest earned an excellent on tearout, whereas the Freud earned a very good. Well I bought both, and found the Freud to cut a surface so smooth that it was glass like. If I was going to put a finish on it, I would rough it up with 200 grit to improve the adhesion, it was that smooth. Also the Freud had absolutely no tear out, not even a little bit. Perfect is the word here. So why did I buy the Forrest Woodworker II also? Because everybody was raving about it. Forrest makes great products.
On the Dado set, I noticed the reviewers stating that their was a tiny ridge at the bottom of the dado cut, created with the Forrest. The Freud has similar results. Oddly enough the Freud creates a perfect edge when making finger joints and the like, even though when you look down into the pocket, their are miniscule ridges in the cut. Comments that the end result on the Forrest have me concerned, stating that the edge is not perfect. Is this an example of more expensive must be better syndrome?
I bought the Freud Super Dado set based on my earlier experience with their standard saw blade vs the Forrest. I'm glad I did. No matter what you buy, a good old fashioned sacrificial piece of scrap sandwiched to your work piece is your best guarantee against tear out when working with expensive woods.
If you look at the Amazon sales rank, the Freud outsells the Forrest 4 to 1. Of course anything that is less money, sells more quantity, but I just can't get beyond the "perfect" performance of the Freud. How do you improve on that?
This is not a dig on Forrest. They make first class products. Just something to consider. I hope this was helpful.

"It's supposed to be that way..." 2002-02-11
By
The review below notes that the bottoms of the dado are 'not flat'. Even though he still gave it four stars, I think it's important to note that this is normal for the Forrestt and was not a defective blade. The ouside blades have a scoring profile on alernate teeth that does give tiny 'batman ears' at the each corner, when the dado is viewed on end. This is why the set cuts so well in lamanated materials. But it's true that when making box joints and the like, where the profile of the dado is exposed, they will be visible.

 "Works for me" 2009-08-07
By oldman2002 (Burlington, KY)
I wanted a dado set to do some rabbeting and dado cuts. This sounded like a good deal. I read all of the reviews and saw enough positive to buy the product. It worked great for me so far. I don't expect I will use them daily but so far - so good. The cuts were clean and with a sacrificial fence, the cut could be completely accurate (practice on a scrap piece to get measurements perfect). The box arrived in fine condition (although that really has no bearing on the usability of the product). I thought trying to line up teeth with gullets was a little tough - when tightening they spin but it worked great.

 "off by 1/64"" 2009-07-26
By Ziggy Q. Bozo (Philadelphia, PA USA)
I've tried two of these dado sets, and in both cases one of the cutters was larger in radius than other. This makes a visible "step" in the bottom of the dado, with one side about 1/64" lower than the other. The two sets were purchased years apart, so it seems to be an ongoing problem. The Mibro dado set is good enough for rough work, or to hog out most of the material so you can finish with a router or plane.

 "Pleasantly Surprised" 2009-06-01
By Jay Pierce (WILLOW SPRINGS, MO USA)
After all the gripes and complaining about what kind of box these are packed in, I was a bit leery about the true quality of the blades. But I was indeed pleasantly surprised to find out my doubts were unfounded. They have turned into a true pleasure to run. A bit more complicated than my last set but then too they are about twice the quality of cut and precision. I have yet to have to add any of the well made shims to correct the cut size. I would, and will if need be, buy these fine blades again. Oh, by the way... The box they came in? Perfect condition and a great added bonus as far as I am concerned.

 "Satisfied" 2009-03-21

When I read the other reviews I wasn't sure what to expect but for the price I decided to give it a shot. I don't know why the box the dado is in seems to be such a big deal because that has nothing to do with how good the product performs which is very good. It fulfills all the needs that I purchased it for and would suggest that if a person is looking for a dado that performs well and is a very affordable price then this is the one for you. Sure the box is'nt very well made but that is not what you buy it for.
