What no one adresses in any reveiws for a beam saw is the fact that many saws are underpowered for blades this size.



The Oshlun blade performs well as ripping or cross-cut blade. I performed many full depth rips w/ the blade in reclaimed cedar beams. All things considered it performed like a champ. I wish the saw had more power (older style Makita beam saw) I was concerned the blade may pinch o rjam and cause a nasty kick back, or worse yet get too hot and start to wobble / wander. None of the above happened. I'm a carpenter by trade, this is my first time w/ a beam saw, so take it for what its worth - Good price and fast shipping.

I have had my B&D Sawcat since 1984 and run nothing but Piranha blades. When I was working as a carpenter - mostly as the cut-man on framing and outside finish crews, I kept at least ten blades and had them sharpened as needed. They are the toughest, longest lasting blades available. For interior trim they cut well but the 24 tooth is smoother. I am using the Sawcat now for DIY projects around the house and my last Piranha blade (bought in 1990 or so) still cuts like a hot knife through butter. I am ordering a new blade now just because it only seems fair to give the old girl a new blade for all the good work she's done for me...

I read the reviews and had doubts, but I needed something like this to clear the brush and limbs near the powerline coming into the house (don't electrocute yourself!). I bought it- shipped quickly and have been extremely pleased ever since. I have cleared all of the limbs I've needed to do for years and hadn't done- apple, birch, spruce, cherry, plum, maple, dogwood, Chinese elm - and it works great. I prefer the 14' length but it is just as effective all the way out. When I pull on the rubber rope handle - it slips, so I wrap the rope around the handle a few times then pull. It has tangled once or twice, but fiddling untangles it. The saw cuts quickly in both direction- handled 3" apple without problem, even moving limbs. But its the pruner that I really like. It beats using a handsaw from a 16 foot ladder, or a chain saw from a 10' step ladder (my old way!). Of course I have to drag off all of the brush I cut, but I get some help with that! -The limbs fall straight down, so one has to ready for that.

Great tool for tool minded folks.

For a high end pruner, I expected better.

The chain has almost no tension and keeps jumping out.

A nut fell off and was lost. The pull handle fell off.

The above happened in the first hour of use.

This pruner is rather heavy and is hard to manage when

it is fully extended. I'll go back to using my cheap

aluminum pruner for everything that it will reach.

I had used a friend's less expensive aluminum shaft pruner in the fall of '08, and found it cut the larger branches better than the Corona. When fully extended, I found that the upper fiberglass section flexed too much when cutting larger branches. a sturdy rope, rather than the chain, would be preferable, because the chain in the cutting head frequently had to be re-aligned.
